2020 Merit Badges Add Focus to Working From Home
… You need some new skills … 2020 merit badges
People, new to working from home, are discovering all kinds of challenges in the home environment that they didn’t have in the office.
Most people’s first thought is “I can work in my pajamas” — yeah, that’s a slippery slope! Other pertinent considerations quickly follow: do you bother putting on a bra if you are staying home (personal preference); how about pants (we don’t need to know that)?
And who knew that there were so many distractions and temptations at home — pets, kids, Netflix and snacks are all vying for your attention. And how do you write a report sitting in the garden when that basil looks wilted, and those flowers need weeding, and…, and…, and…?
You need some new skills for this new life style! And you need to figure out how to stay focused. Remember merit badges when you were a kid? They were pretty motivational and provided you with focus. You learned to sew, or start a fire and you got a badge for mastering that skill. We need 2020 Merit Badges!
2020 Merit Badges are Fun
Well, I got to thinking about that, and it wasn’t a big leap to a merit badge for your first virtual meeting, grocery shopping with an app, or mastering home schooling. How about kudos for hosting your first virtual happy hour (that is my personal favorite). With some humor and patience you will figure it out. 2020 merit badges can bring a little humor to these crazy times.
2020 Merit Badges are Creative
People are incredibly creative. I’ve enjoyed the musical parodies that have taken over facebook. A friend that normally has cooking classes in her home has turned to Zoom to share cooking online with clients. We’ve been doing virtual happy hour with friends on FaceTime to keep in touch. Neighbors are sharing grocery shopping with each other. People are out getting exercise but maintaining distance. These are tough times but people are figuring it out.

Make your own footprints…
Keep your sense of humor.
There will be challenges and we are all stressed. Most of us are lucky enough to just be terribly inconvenienced by the lock downs. I hope that boredom is your biggest concern (it means you are safe).
For the newly initiated to working from home, what are you doing to keep yourselves focused on work? And because it is important to separate work and play — how are you relaxing and keeping yourself entertained?
Please be smart, safe and practice creative social distancing.
Enjoy the journey!

I am Karin and I just love to share a good story — preferably with snacks! I’m particularly interested in capturing the world’s beauty and wonder in photographs.
Recently I created Photos for Artists, packs of images for artists to use in their collage and art projects. You can find a detailed description and photos on my Footprints and Photos Etsy store.
Besides my blog, Footprints & Stories, you can also find my images on Zazzle products. I have two stores — one with Gifts for Travelers and Nature Lovers, the other with Gifts for Gardeners and Lovers of Flowers. Items include notecards, wedding invitations, tote bags, mugs, journals and more. Every product is backed by the Zazzle guarantee.
Please use the links provided as it helps me buy better snacks (and funds the website)!
Karin, What a brilliant idea! You are so clever.
Janene! Thanks so much. These were fun to play with. We are working on completeing half finished projects around the house now.
